Midweek Momentum: The Power of Being Underestimated
Hi friend,
It’s easy to underestimate people. We do it all the time—whether it’s a quiet coworker, a beginner at something new, or even ourselves.
We assume someone won’t be capable of handling a challenge. We think we know the limits of what’s possible. But people are full of surprises, and sometimes, the person we’re underestimating the most is ourselves.
You don’t know what you or someone else is truly capable of until they’re tested. Sometimes, a little belief is all it takes to prove you wrong.
This week, challenge yourself to give someone—or yourself—the benefit of the doubt. Instead of assuming a limit, assume potential.
You might just be amazed at what happens.
STORIES FROM THE PATH: THE LITTLE WARRIORS
When my taekwondo master said, “You’ll be teaching the 4-6-year-olds every day,” I braced myself. Internally, I was prepared for the worst months of my life. Managing that age group seemed like the ultimate challenge, and I thought I was in for nonstop chaos.
But by the time I retired, those kids had become some of my best students. They respected me, worked hard to improve the basics, and genuinely enjoyed learning. I had my own little taekwondo army—disciplined, determined, and even ready to crush their bullies if needed.
It turns out, teaching them wasn’t just manageable. It was rewarding. They taught me as much as I taught them.
The next generation is capable of so much more than we often give them credit for, and I left that dojang proud of what they’d become.
Don’t underestimate the potential of those who come after you. With guidance, patience, and belief, they can surpass even your highest expectations.
YOUR SHORTCUT TO REACHING BIGGER GOALS
If you feel like you’ve been holding yourself back or playing small, here’s something to help.
I put together a Breakthrough Mindset Worksheet to help you reset your self-imposed limits and push past what you thought was possible. Whether it’s career goals, personal growth, or a skill you’re learning, this will help you take the next step with confidence.

If you’re going to underestimate something, let it be your limits, not your potential.
QUICK WIN: HOW ARE YOUR RESOLUTIONS HOLDING UP?
It’s been a couple of months since the new year began. How are those resolutions holding up?
Whether you’re crushing your goals or feeling like they’ve fallen by the wayside, now’s a great time to check in. Take a moment to reflect:
Are these goals still meaningful to me?
Have I set realistic steps to achieve them?
What’s one small adjustment I can make today to get back on track?
Progress isn’t about perfection. It’s about persistence. Adjust, refocus, and keep moving forward. Every small step gets you closer to where you want to be.
Stay focused (or at least pretend to),
Jonathan
